Personality Tests: Learning Style Types

About a month ago, one of my students asked if she could interview me for her psychology class. She asked me to take a "Paragon Learning Style Inventory" test (which I think is pulled from the Briggs-Myers personality test). Anyhow, I showed J my results, and he laughed out loud (because he felt like the last sentence was so accurate).

My results: ISTJ (Introvert, Sensing, Thinking, Judging)
"Serious, quiet, earn success by concentration and thoroughness. Practical, orderly, matter-of-fact, logical, realistic, dependable. See to it that everything is well organized. Take responsibility. Make up their minds as to what should be accomplished and work toward is steadily, regardless of protests or distractions."

I feel like this is a fairly accurate description of me. I've taken previous tests where I score as an ambivert, but I have more introverted tendencies over extroverted tendencies. I think my introversion has become more pronounced over the past several years.

J's results: INFP (Introvert, Intuition, Feeling, Perceptive)
"Full of enthusiasm and loyalties, but seldom talk of these until they know you well. Care about learning ideas, language, and independent projects of their own. Tend to undertake too much, then somehow get it done. Friendly, but often too absorbed in what they are doing to be sociable. Little concerned with possessions or physical surroundings."

J thinks that this is a fairly accurate description, but he noted that he does care quite a bit about his physical surroundings and environment (especially from an aesthetic standpoint). I would agree. And I would also add that J does care about a lot of his possessions, like his art books.

We looked through the results, and we think that this might be the personality and learning style which fits best for Sam, at least at this point in his life: ISTP (Introvert, Sensing, Thinking, Perceptive)
"Cool onlookers. Quiet, reserved, observing and analyzing life with detached curiosity and unexpected flashes of original humor. Usually interested in cause and effect-how and why mechanical things work, and in organizing facts use logical principles."

When Sam's older, we'd like to have him take the test to see if our guess was accurate! If you're interested in taking the test, you can access it online HERE. And HERE is a list of the different personality/learning styles. What personality type are you?

This test was a little frustrating for me because I had equal scores in 2 of the categories. The test determined that I am introverted and a 'thinker', but it couldn't distinguish my personality in the categories of sensate/intuitive and judger/perceiver.

Besides that, it was pretty interesting to read the descriptions of the different personality types. I think the test was also pretty accurate in describing yours and J's personalities.

I do love these kinds of things. And I think your description pretty much sums up your personality. :)

My results: Introvert Intuitive Thinker Perceiver.

Alden, I guess that means that you are more well rounded than most people! You must be able to lean on different aspects of your personality, depending on whatever might be needed for the situation at hand. I think most of the people in our family would test as introverts, don't you think?

ixoj, I think that's a pretty good marker for you. I don't know if I would have categorized you as one who mostly enjoys scientific and theoretical pursuits, but that does fit with linguistics.

Matt has worked a lot with this test and is certified to give administer it. He uses it a lot at work and has developed team building training programs in relation to the test. His family talks about it all of the time. Matt is ENFP and I'm ES(T/F)J. He thinks it's a great tool for understanding yourself and others. You and Matt would have lots of fun discussing this test and your results... next time we're together!

I need to take this test. In some other recent test I came up as INTJ, which is the same as Neal. I think that description fits him very well, but I am not so sure it is accurate for me, so maybe this one you linked would have different results. I have narrowed Soren down to the EN category, but I think he's still too young to tell much. It has been an interesting experience for Neal and I as solid introverts raising a very extroverted child.

Sigh, like Alden I am not super sure. In the last two categories I wasn't 6/6 but I was 5/7 and 7/5. When reading through it says that it still considers those a tie and that I should refer to some other page in the packet. Sad. But I am a clear IN...and that is all we know about me. I am an enigma (or maybe I just wish I was one).

I'm ISFJ:
Quiet friendly, responsible, and conscientious. Work devotedly to meet their obligations. Lend stability to any project or group. Thorough, painstaking, accurate. Their interests are usually not technical. Can be patient with necessary details. :Loyal, considerate, perceptive, concerned with how other people feel.

Seems pretty accurate. I was almost equal in the F/T category though.

I'm an INFJ (though only a few points more J than P).

After reading the detailed descriptions of several of them, I think I don't fit anything. I took the test again and came out INFP, but I'm not sure about it. Hmph.

Joanna, it's funny that you and Matt are basically same as me and Jeremy, only you are both "E" instead of "I."

It's interesting to see how I'm friends with so many introverts on here! Thanks for sharing your results, everyone!
