idol thoughts

Danny Gokey definitely gave the best performance on American Idol last night. He was consistent and engaging throughout his whole song. I also think that he stands out from the other contestants because many of the performances last night were a little hokey, some of them bordering on the karaoke side. Danny seems like a really nice guy, too. I bet that he will make it through this round without a problem.

I was so sad that Stevie Wright did so poorly - I had high hopes for her when I heard her audition with an Etta James song. Last night was a mess though; she sounded nervous, took breaths in the wrong places, and the notes in her lower register were uncontrolled and unfocused. It was awful. I kept wishing that the song would just end so this sweet girl wouldn't have to embarrass herself anymore.

I also think that Ricky Braddy has a fantastic voice and range, but I was disappointed with his song choice. Although the song showed off Braddy's range and vocal capabilities, I didn't find it very engaging. Come to think of it, I can't even remember what song it was...

I like Michael Sarver alright, but I didn't think last night was so impressive. He didn't enunciate his words really well, and everything sounded a little garbled to me. I don't know if that was the best song choice for him.

Basically, I agree with everything that my friend Shauna said in her post. Her critique of Tatiana is hilarious - she is kind of like a "giant, oversized beauty pagent contestant." I'm sure that the only reason she has been kept in the show thus far is because of ratings. I really doubt she'll go further in the contest, unless the judges bring her back as a wild card (horror of horrors!).

What do other people think?

I liked Dany as well, but I was really impressed with Alexis. She surprised me...

Totally agree with you! Danny was a shoe-in. Very disappointed with Stevie as she was an early favorite of mine. I was stunned by Alexis (and this last performance was the first time I noticed her.) Michael Carver is simply likeable, and I kind of like his style, if you can even call it a "style."

I'm not sure I like that the top guy and top girl make it to the final 12. After the performances Tuesday night, I honestly can say there wasn't any girl I was blown away by (perhaps because nearly all of them did AWFUL). I kind of wish that just the top 3 highest votes made it . . . I don't know if that's fair, but really, the girls were just so disappointing.

I'm wondering if, and hoping, Anoop gets a wild card. I like that a voice like that exists in such an unlikely package.

I liked Danny the best by FAR too, in fact he was the only one that I knew for sure was going through. I thought Ricky had a great voice but pretty much knew he wouldn't get through since he had no air time during the auditions. And I hope Anoop comes back for the wild card round too, because I really liked him! Overall though. . . I hope next week's group performs a lot better. There were some really horrible ones this week!!!

Yeah, Emilee, I wish that the top highest three votes made it through too. What if 5 boys received more votes than any girl? I don't really care about gender equality with American Idol; I'd rather that the right singers get pushed through, instead of mixing it up with girls and guys.

There were a lot of awful performances the other night, weren't there? Let's hope next week is better.

i just know Tatiana will be a wild card. she has to be the freak this year. i can't stand the woman! they sure seem to be catering who they want us to pay attention to this year. they give a lot of camera time to certain people and almost none to others. last week was definitely vocally disappointing; can't wait to see tonight.

I totally agree with you about air time, Haylie. J and I wonder if Ricky Braddy might have gotten through if he had been given more air time and interviews. He has a great voice, but the American public hasn't gotten to know him at all during his time in the competition. Other people, like Tatiana, monopolized all of the air time (which is unfortunate because there is obviously no way that she is going to win the competition).
