Last weekend J and I watched the film "Russian Ark." I was interested in watching this Russian film because it is comprised of one continuous, uninterrupted take. Since there are no cuts or breaks between scenes, I think that the cinematography is interesting and compelling. If you love art, Russian Ark is a must-see because it was filmed in the Hermitage (St. Petersburg). Here's a trailer for Russian Ark (although I don't think this trailer captures the mood of the film very well):
J and I aren't experts on Russian history, and we had a few lingering questions after the movie ended. This Wikipedia entry helped to clarify some of our questions.
Has anyone seen Russian Ark? I highly recommend it.

Where can one see this? Is it available at video stores?
Oh I saw this movie...in the theater...it felt like the longest 90 minutes of my life. I went to see it because I thought it sounded like an interesting concept, but I guess I just didn't "get it".
We rented the movie from Blockbuster.
I didn't "get" part of the movie until I read the Wikipedia entry. I actually don't know if I could watch this movie in the theater - all of the walking and moving between rooms would make me seasick if I saw it on the big screen!
Cool! I was sad when I missed this film at the international cinema.
I saw it and loved it. It was obviously slow, but that gave me time to consider the logistics of filming it.
I haven't read the wikipedia entry yet, but I remember seeing it when it came out, and it was for the anniversary of St. Petersburg. Ever since I've wanted to go there.
I have to admit that I tried to watch this movie twice and got distracted within the first thirty minutes or so, then turned it off when I realized that I had no clue what was going on.
It's funny because Dan Almeida introduced us to this movie because he loves it, but then his wife (who is Russian) always remarks that it is boring. Maybe I would like it if I could make myself focus on it.
I think I still didn't have a complete idea of what was going on, even after the film ended. But I still liked it. It is slow-moving though, so it is easy to get distracted. :)
That's really funny that Almeida likes the film and Olga doesn't. Ha!
