Anyone else shocked by this news? Wow. I'm so surprised. I guess that the King of Pop will never have his anticipated comeback.
I love the early Michael Jackson stuff, especially from when he was in the Jackson Five. Here's a clip of the first time that the song "ABC" was aired. What an amazing voice for such a small kid! I love his little dance moves too:
And I think that Thriller is one of the most fantastic albums of all time. Click here to watch the Thriller music video in all its awesome '80s-ness.
You can't beat Michael Jackson's early stuff. What a talented man.

I love Jackson 5 and Thriller. Great music.
I feel bad for his kids, but at the same time, I think his kids may now actually stand a chance at a semi-normal life. Odd.
So, sorry for another comment, but I just watched the video clip. Wow, they were all such in sync with their dance moves. I remember hearing that Joe Jackson used to make them cut a switch if they messed up on their dance moves. Guess the switch technique works (sadly).
Yes, I was pretty shocked to hear the news. I mean, he was extremely eccentric, but also incredibly talented.
I've heard some of his unreleased private recordings that he did for his children (like on this website ). I'm curious to see if those will ever be released and if they are any good.
*Correction--I've heard of the existence of the unreleased recordings (I haven't actually heard any of them).
I skipped school in the 8th (or 9th?) grade with some friends, and went over to my friend Gordon's house to watch the WORLD PREMIERE of the Thriller video on MTV. Gordon's mom cooked us popcorn and we all gathered around their 15" TV screen to watch Michael Jackson turn into a werewolf for the very first time.
Sigh...he was a Freakjob, but I am stunned and I guess a little sad.
Did you ever notice how his nose(s) seemed to illustrate his life-trajectory (less full>less noticable>falling apart>MIA). I'm going to miss his life story as told by his (desintegrating) nose.
(Also, I agree with E: which is worse: having Michael Jackson as your dad, or having Dead Michael Jackson as your dad?)
Yeah, I feel bad for MJ's kids too. I hope that they do get to lead some kind of semi-normal life. (But it also sounds like the Jackson estate is in a lot of debt - do his kids automatically inherit that?)
And I liked your observation about the nose(s), Ant Bee. Ha! I never thought of that parallel. Without a doubt, Michael Jackson went through a lot of phases and faces. I wonder what he thought of his physical appearance in the later years of his life...
I've never heard about these recordings, Kiersten. Thanks for posting that link! It will be interesting to find out if they ever get released. I think it would be great if some of the songs were released and well-received. It would be great for Michael Jackson's legacy to end on a (posthumous) high note.
