maybe later

During a dinner party last night, J commented (during two unrelated conversations) about professions that he would like do to "in [his] next life." J always thought that it would be fun to be a luthier, and part of him still wishes that he was an architect.

His comments got me thinking about the jobs and hobbies that I always wanted to pursue (but opted otherwise):
  • Professional singing - I always wanted to be a classical singer or a jazz singer. Or maybe both.
  • Dancing - I tried to teach myself ballet when I was about eleven. I even started a ballet "studio" and made my sister C and other girls in the neighborhood take classes from me. (I was horrible at choreographing their routines.) Too bad I'm too awkward and stiff to be a graceful dancer.
  • Paleontology/archaeology/geology - Unfortunately, I'm not good enough at chemistry and/or math to do well in any of these professions. Ancient art history is as close to archaeology as I can get...but I still think it would be fun to go on a dig.
What would you want to be in your next life?

I still toy with the idea of becoming an art conservationist sometimes. I was actually very good at math and chemistry once upon a time, but now I'm out of practice. I wanted to be a geneticist/genetic engineer when I started college, but BYU just didn't have a good program for that. I still think that that would be a cool profession, though. Also, a professional chef. I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen. Going out on archeological digs has always sounded romantic as well, but I hear that they're rather tedious.

Geez, where do I start?
-An artist.
-A professor (though, I'm certain I couldn't handle the immaturity of college students -- I was a "serious" student who was so excited about learning and would love students like that, though, it seems most students are just there to party and sleep in ...).
-A photographer.
-A therapist.
-A doctor (I love human anatomy, unfortunately, I could never pull of the chemistry capabilities for such things).
-And most definitely, a writer. I was a journalist for a short while during/after college. I even got my Bachelor's in journalism, but I didn't like news writing. However, I would LOVE to write short stories and books. That would be my absolute dream.

And finally, you left off your list a professional roller skater!

Next life? I'm hoping for still achieving a few of these before I die. Let me just remind you that you are NEVER to old to start a new hobby/profession (ie: beginning Irish dance at 26, which also happens to be an excellent type of dance if you're stiff).

-Professional Chef
-Expert on the Islam/Middle East/Arabic
-Irish Dancer
-Writer
-Historical Preservationist -(saving old buildings from being torn down in the dear old USA)
-Theater Actor
-Ecologist

Mainly I'm amazed you had time to blog given the utter chaos you've been coping with. You really are turning a bit June Cleaverish (cooks a 5 course meal AND had time to knit her own curtains!)

I'd love to be an amateur archaeologist with you. We should go on those tourist digs when we're old ladies. Well, when I'm an old lady and you are a younger old lady.

Also? Scuba photographer!

Midwife!

Author of INTERESTING things!
