woe is me
The stars have aligned, and they are decidedly against me. Tonight I sat down to make the final changes on my journal article (in hopes that I could submit everything tonight) and my computer would not start. At all. I have backup files of the article edits and revisions that I made this afternoon, but I'm at a loss without my computer (I'm typing from J's laptop right now). I don't even want to think about what would happen if I didn't have my computer or its files, especially all of my art history notes and lecture presentations. Yikes.

Woe is you! That is awful! I am going to pray that they can fix it and you can get to your files. I completely understand that -- my laptop died last spring with my THESIS on it. I about died.
I totally feel your pain. At the end of my last semester before graduating, my laptop died, which meant recently that I had no files of any of my collegiate papers to include with my master's application. Death to computers! Or . . . mrm. Eternal life to computers!
oh dear. good luck to the repairman!
This happened to me in law school. I lost my entire article that was ready to be published.
OH NO....talk about stressful! I hope everything works out!
;(
Nooooooooooo!!!! (that's more dramatic if you imagine me saying it in slow motion)
And the verdict? Did the computer repairman recover your files? I am in the middle of writing my thesis and my heart seriously hurt for you when I read this post! I hope everything turned out ok. Back everything up with an external hard drive when you can! I am excited for you to submit your journal article. Good luck!
I found out this afternoon that there is a problem with the motherboard. It looks like everything can be fixed and the data will be salvaged, which is a HUGE relief. As soon as I get the computer home (which won't be until next week sometime), I'm going to backup ALL of my files right away.
I didn't know that you are in the middle of your thesis, Lindsay. That's great. I'm sure that you're constantly backing up your work. :)
