adam lambert and lisa frank

I can't sleep. I keep thinking about how Adam Lambert's new album cover is completely hideous. The typeface is awful, the glistening stars on the serifs are ridiculous, and the extreme close-up of Adam's unabashedly Photoshopped-face is silly. I get what the designer was trying to do, in the sense that he wanted a throw-back aesthetic that recalls the '80s. And I know that the album cover is supposed to be campy as an homage to the past. But honestly, the florescent colors, glittering stars, airbrushed look, and even Lambert's eyeshadow just remind me of the Lisa Frank folders that I used to carry in my Trapper Keeper.

Sorry Adam. You probably weren't hoping to be associated with elementary school.

I about lost it when I read the title "adam lambert.." I look down and see that ridiculous album cover and then finish reading "...and lisa frank." I remember even hating her stuff when I was in elementary school. How could one person be so obsessed with dolphins?

oh. my. word. ridiculous. but that's ok, i didn't like him much from the beginning...but ditto on the trapper keeper - i loved my Lisa Frank one with ballet shoes on the front. :)

The sad thing is he probably did this to create some controversy -- to get people wound up. That's so unnecessary! I mean, when he was on American Idol he didn't have to rely on anything but his voice alone (that was "controversial" enough). I hate it when truly talented people resort to doing something Britney Spears (or the like) that would do.

And thanks for memories -- Trapper Keepers, ha ha ha! I kept my Trapper Keeper inside my Esprit bag. Ha!

I was really looking forward to his album, but its nothing more than a dance album. He has such an incredible voice and he's singing about leather boots.

Yeah, Elmo, I listened to clips of his album and wasn't impressed either. Lambert uses a strange mixture of vocal styles on the tracks too. I guess it's good to show off your diversity and vocal talent, but it also makes the album seem so disparate and strange. At times, he sounded like a completely different singer from track-to-track.

I've seen the inside stuff too and it's more weird pictures of Adam. I don't think his music is that great.

Lisa Frank! It took me a minute to remember Lisa Frank, but it's so true! Ah...Adam has been a disappointment to me. (Ever since his performance on the Music Awards.)

I'm not sure which is worse - losing sleep to collapsing columns or Adam Lambert's ridiculous face. I think I'd pick "Room of the Giants."

Yeah, I would prefer "Room of the Giants" too! At least those paintings have withstood the test of time.

It will be interesting to see how Lambert does in his career. Four hundred years from now, I highly doubt that people will lose sleep over Adam Lambert. But I hope they still remember Giulio Romano and "Room of the Giants."

I did a blog post awhile back about how much I hate that album cover too. I love the Lisa Frank comparison, I didn't even think of that one but it really DOES look like those folders!

Seriously, though. . . it's a good album! As long as I never have to look at the cover, and I don't because I downloaded it. :)
